Tliltocatl kahlenbergi, formerly known as Brachypelma kahlenbergi, is a fascinating species of tarantula indigenous to Mexico, specifically found in the states of Veracruz and Oaxaca. Commonly referred to as the “Veracruz Red Rump” or “Red Rump Tarantula,” Tliltocatl kahlenbergi shares some characteristics with its close relative, Tliltocatl vagans.
One of the distinctive features of Tliltocatl kahlenbergi is its remarkable coloration. The tarantula boasts a dark black or deep brown body, complemented by an abdomen adorned with vibrant red hairs, which contribute to its common name. This color combination creates a visually striking appearance, Tliltocatl kahlenbergi has a robust build, characterized by a stocky body and thick legs, giving it a powerful appearance.
Being a ground-dwelling species, Tliltocatl kahlenbergi constructs burrows or utilizes natural crevices for shelter and protection. These burrows serve as a secure retreat where the tarantula can molt, mate, and lay eggs. The species exhibits nocturnal behavior, emerging from its burrow during the night to forage for prey and explore its surroundings.

Once within striking range, the tarantula swiftly captures its prey using strong legs and injects venom for immobilization. Their diet primarily consists of insects and other small invertebrates found in their natural habitat.

Husbandry:
Keep at 70-80% humidity and 24-29°C for temperature, use a mix of peat moss and vermiculite.
Enclosure Size:
5cm for spiderlings, 20 cm for juveniles, and 30*30*30 cm or more for adults.
